About Me.
Northwest Gemz was founded by Josiah Westbrook, a lifelong athlete, coach, and communications professional with a passion for elevating and celebrating student-athletes throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Raised in Whatcom County, Josiah attended Blaine School District before finishing his high school career at Squalicum High School. His love for athletics led him to compete at the collegiate level for four years before continuing his basketball career professionally overseas in Morocco. Throughout his playing journey, he developed a deep appreciation for the impact that sports can have on young people, families, and communities.
Today, Josiah serves as the Head Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at Whatcom Community College, where he helps mentor and develop student-athletes both on and off the court. He has also spent years coaching youth and AAU basketball, working with athletes at various stages of their development and helping them pursue their goals.
In addition to coaching, Josiah holds a Bachelor's Degree in Communications and a Master's Degree in Sports Administration. His unique background in athletics, media, and community engagement inspired him to create Northwest Gemz in 2023.
Northwest Gemz was founded with a simple mission: to shine a spotlight on the athletes, coaches, and stories that make Northwest Washington special. Through interviews, social media coverage, podcasts, highlight features, and community partnerships, Northwest Gemz provides local athletes with a platform to be recognized for their hard work, achievements, and character.
For Josiah, Northwest Gemz is about more than sports. It's about creating opportunities, building community, inspiring the next generation, and ensuring that local athletes receive the recognition they deserve.
